"Cucumber Recall 2025: What
Consumers Need to Know About the Latest Salmonella Risk"
Salmonella
Outbreak Linked to Cucumbers: A Multi-State Investigation
Bedner Growers’ cucumbers, distributed by Fresh Start Produce, are being recalled because of possible links to Salmonella infections across the United States. From 29 April to 19 May 2025, cucumbers were distributed and are now on sale in different American states.
Affected States:
15 states are experiencing illnesses from the outbreak:
Alabama, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan,
North Carolina, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and
Virginia. At present, on 20 May 2025, cases of these illnesses have increased
to 26, with nine requiring hospitalisation. According to the CDC, numerous
individuals likely have Salmonella, but because most of these cases do not get
testing, the actual number is not known for sure.
Product Details:
Recalled cucumbers were sold individually and also in small
packages. Because labels are not the same every time, it is not easy to tell
which drug you have. People operating distributors, restaurants and shops
should be able to identify these cucumbers by the labels “supers,” “selects,”
or “plains.” Those who bought cucumbers at market should ask the sellers if
their produce is part of this recall.
Symptoms of Salmonella Infection:
Symptoms will usually develop within 12 to 72 hours after
taking the drug and often end within four to seven days. People may notice
diarrhea, running a fever and feeling abdominal cramps as usual symptoms.
Severe illness in people under 5, over 65 and those with weak immune systems is
more likely. If cucumbers cause these symptoms, you should immediately see a
doctor.
Advice for Consumers:
Don’t Take Chances: Get rid of any cucumbers that may have been recalled as soon as possible. Wash and sanitise all the surfaces and equipment used with the recalled cucumbers. If you suspect Salmonella, report your symptoms to your doctor as soon as possible. Follow FDA and CDC news for any updates on the outbreak. Fresh Start Produce Sales, Inc. and others are collaborating with the FDA to find out why the food was unsafe and stop any more cases from happening.
